Bug Description

Fresh install of 11.10 amd64 on a machine with a dual head nVidia card (shown by lspci as "nVidia Corporation G92 [GeForce GTS 250] rev a2") with twin DVI outputs and a primary 30" monitor and secondary 23" monitor, both connected via DVI. After 11.10 install completed, the right-hand 23" monitor remains blank and in power save, although when I open System Settings / Displays, both monitors appear there with the initial display configuration showing as mirrored displays at 1152x864 resolution. Un-mirroring the displays and setting each display to its native resolution and orientation still has the LH monitor blank. I think the problem is that the 23" monitor is being incorrectly detected as being connected via HDMI, as when I run xrandr in a terminal it shows

The video card does not have any HDMI output at all, just the two DVI outputs.

I have a very similar problem with my nvidia G94 (GeForce 9600 GT), only differing in the HDMI issue - xrandr correctly detects the two DVIs. Out of curiosity, does this happen for you with the live CD? In my case a daily image of precise works fine, but both oneiric and precise exhibit the problem once installed. This should mean that it's some minor problem that is preventing the second monitor from working.

No, livecd shows the same problem.

Nick Payne, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-video-nouveau REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

I no longer see the problem on Ubuntu 13.10. Both monitors show as DVI connected and both work fine.
