Bug Description

I have somehow ended up with two copies of my whole indicator area. Both of them work. I was previously fiddling with external screens, perhaps that's related.

Martin: what's happening with the background below the top bar, that appears to be stopping/repeating at the same point too?

Yep, that's true. I have one copy of my desktop wallpaper drawn to
end just to the right of the first gear icon, and then another
underneath it filling the whole screen, just as if there is one
smaller {wallpaper+bar} set drawn on top of another. The actual
windows seem to be working fine though.

So it seems like Xorg has crapped up the screen and is still considering 2 monitors to be connected while only 1 exists?

Not very sure about what's happening though, you could try running apport-collect when the issue occurs again.
