Do you have evolution installed ? If not, install it and everything should be fine.

I also came across this bug with the calendar. There has been a comment to install Evolution to fix it. I do not want Evolution, I want to use Thunderbird which I find much more stable. This calendar bug should work without having to install Evolution.

I understood that Evolution has been replaced by Thunderbird with the release of ubuntu 11.10. It seems logical therefor that the "Open Calendar" button in the Gnome 3 calendar applet should trigger access to Thunderbird's Lightning Calendar not Evolution. As it stands, the full benefit of the gnome 3 style clock/calendar applet is not realised. Looking forward to a prompt fix.
