Bug Description
According the to the build parameters retrieved with dovecot -a mysql is supported. You can start it with the mysql option but when the process tries to access mysql it says mysql is a bad option.
Sorry I purged the dovecot-common and downgraded before making this report.

Ubuntu 11.10 introduced a new dovecot package - dovecot-mysql - to support this functionality.
Any chance you did not have this installed?
