Bug Description

Hi,

I have trouble booting my V10 Snowball with the 11.10 Linaro Android release.

First, U-boot doesn't find the right script file:

Reading boot.scr
** Unable to read "boot.scr" from mmc 1:1 **
Partition info retrieved
Reading /uImage

The boot script on my SD card is 'flash.scr', no 'boot.scr'

The second problem is that the kernel tries to boot on the internal MMC (eMMC), and therefore waits forever for the root filesystem to be mounted:

[ 0.000000] Kernel command line: console=ttyAMA2,115200n8 ip=dhcp vmalloc=256M root=/dev/mmcblk1p2 rootwait mem=128M@0 mali.mali_mem=32M@128M hwmem=168M@M160M mem=48M@328M mem_issw=1M@383M mem=640M@384M

...

[ 13.337371] Waiting for root device /dev/mmcblk1p2...
[ 17.737579] av8100_hdmi av8100_hdmi.0: HDMI display probed
[ 17.826995] av8100 0-0070: chip version:2
[ 19.487274] av8100_hdmi av8100_hdmi.0: Framebuffer created (av8100_hdmi)

I tried to remove and insert the microSD card, and this shows that it was bound to /dev/mmcblk0:

[ 97.823577] mmc0: card 1234 removed
[ 112.495666] mmc0: host does not support reading read-only switch. assuming write-enable.
[ 112.504150] mmc0: new SDHC card at address 1234
[ 112.510833] mmcblk0: mmc0:1234 SA08G 7.41 GiB
[ 112.525726] mmcblk0: p1 p2 p3 p4 < p5 p6 >

I added the full log for information.

Cheers,

Michael.

The bootscript issue is known and being worked on. There are instructions on the android snowball release page telling users what boot cmd line to put in.

With the right kernel boot cmd line the board comes up properly.

Hi Mathieu,

Thanks for your quick feedback...

This is not completely true that this issue is documented, as there are no instructions on http://releases.linaro.org/11.10/android/leb-snowball/ . The release managers have told me that they would add these instructions in the next days though.

Where is the page you're telling about? I couldn't find in on https://wiki.linaro.org/Platform/Android, and I haven't found it yet on the rest of the wiki...

Cheers,

Michael.

Michael,

The instructions are published on the release pages:

https://android-build.linaro.org/builds/~linaro-android/staging-snowball-11.10-release/
https://android-build.linaro.org/builds/~linaro-android/landing-snowball-11.10-release/

This morning's push to fix the issue should address 95% of the problem. After that there will be the default bootcmd to fix but this won't do anything for people using the pre-installed u-boot image or currently released emmc android/ubuntu images on igloocommunity.org.

Actually, I will update the daily build snowball pages with the correct information to boot the board.

Thanks for the fix! Unfortunately, I can't reproduce it now (not the board with me), but I will be able to test it next week.

This problem should be fixed - commands in the boot.scr file are now accurate and the release page has been updated with the right instructions to boot the board:
