Installer fails on HPDV9210us when bringing up X

Bug Description

The installer using the alternate install cd fails on this hardware after all installation has taken place, presumably when bringing up X. Grub has not yet been installed, so the computer is left in an unbootable state. The screen goes blank, and the computer hard locks. True both for edgy and feisty CDs.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. When running the Live CD could you please execute the command 'lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log' and attach that file to your bug report. Additionally, if you try booting in recovery mode on your installed system what happens? Thanks in advance.

Hello, the laptop now has knoppix on it, so I'm unable to do the latter (of running in recovery mode.) However, attached is the output of the lspci command. FWIW, the livecd also fails just before bringing up X (feisty, edgy and dapper are all the same.)
Thanks
Reuben

PCLinuxOS booted, installed, and ran OK, but froze after a period of time. I narrowed the issue down to APIC. I don't know if this is related to the above issue, but just fyi.

I turned of APIC and booted with the latest feisty beta. It brought up X succesfully. However, the installer failed! (Seperate bug)

Can you test and see if this is still occurring on gutsy-beta (or newer)?

This sounds much like bug 127008, except that is for -intel, whereas it appears this is -nv. But if the issue is still occurring, then possibly 127008's solution may be extended to solve this one too.

Hi, xresprobe is no longer used in Hardy Heron, the development version which will become Ubuntu 8.04. Because of that I'm closing this bug. Please test Hardy (alpha3 or later), and if your hardware still fails to get a correct resolution (or if it drops to failsafe mode), file a bug against the driver package (xserver-xorg-video-$driver). Thanks!
