Bug Description

Binary package hint: kmail

KMail, message list. When I select a message, its sender and subject changes to that of another mail. I know it sounds strange, so I attached an animated gif that shows what happens. You can see that in the second frame when I select the second mail, its properties change. Better yet, the same can happen again when I double click it. The actual content of the mail is always the same, so the problem is limited to the message list.

The bug frequently shows up when I do the following:

1. Fire up KMail
2. Check IMAP account for new mail
3. Quit KMail
4. Launch another IMAP client (I use pine)
5. Delete one mail from the IMAP inbox
6. Quit pine
7. Launch KMail again, click around in the message list to check which message exhibits the problem

I suspect inconsistencies between KMail local cache and the IMAP server. When I empty the .kde/share/apps/kmail/imap directory, the problem goes away.

Cool image, however I cannot reproduce this. Are you still experiencing this issue? If so what version are you using? Is this issue in the latest updates in the stable release of Feisty as well?

Yes, the bug is still there with the latest Feisty update, however, it might be the problem of the imap server I use. Anyway, my kmail version is 3.5.6-0ubuntu6. (The server is sarge's dovecot, version 0.99.14-1sarge0, just in case somebody else has a chance to confirm this)

I managed to fix the problem. The IMAP server I used was configured to store the message index in memory. Now I set it to store indexes on the disk, and the problem disappeared. This bug report should probably be closed.
