Bug Description

On every wallpaper I select there is a weird bright spot. This only happens when I have the ATI 11.9 drivers installed (ATI HD5870). I'm using Ubuntu 11.10 and these ppas:
ppa:elementary-os/daily
ppa:nemequ/sqlheavy
ppa:ricotz/docky
It looks like the default Ubuntu wallpaper comes through the selected wallpaper, you can clearly see it when I selected the gradient option, (see the attached screenshot).

When I'm using the opensource ati drivers it only shows the default ubuntu wallpaper. (probably the one which is coming through the selected wallpaper when I use fglrx).

To select the wallpapers I use the system settings -> appearance option (comes with Ubuntu 11.10), because I can't open any plug in switchboard (I'll open a different bug report about it, the terminal says that I'm trying to load multiple plugs at once.)

If you can't reproduce the issue with open-source driver, it's probably a bug in the proprietary ATI driver. We can't fix it, and neither can Ubuntu. You should report this to ATI.

With the open-source drivers I can't change the wallpaper at all. It just stays the same (Ubuntu default wallpaper).

Well, if you're running pantheon-wallpaper, it's supposed to stay the same because it doesn't share settings with GNOME, and can't be configured using GNOME tools. The picture URL used by pantheon-wallpaper is /desktop/wallpaper/picture-path in dconf. You can change it using dconf-editor until the appropriate Switchboard plug is available.

affects: elementaryos → pantheon-wallpaper
Changed in pantheon-wallpaper:
