Bug Description
the code of tzdata contains information regarding a non-existing country, the so called "pridnestrovian moldavian republic" (an illegal political entity that emerged out of a bloody conflict, the conflict being currently still unresolved). This so called "pridnestrovian moldavian republic" is not a member of the UN, and its existence has not been recognized by any world state. http://
I think the presence of erroneous information in the code constitutes a bug and should be removed.
Bellow is an example of code from the update package that went out for all versions, from Hardy Heron to Precise Pangolin:
tzdata (2011n-1) unstable; urgency=critical
* New upstream veersion, fixing DST for:
- Cuba.
- Fidji.
- Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic.
* Set urgency to high as some of the above changes are already

The time zone database is not about official political recognition. It is simply a database of local time. That region announced they were not switching to "winter time" so an urgent change was made to reflect that, but the officials changed their mind so the change was reverted almost immediately:
