Bug Description

HP xw6400 Workstation. Using Gnome-shell (I wonder if this matters) with Ubuntu 11.10 (64 bits).

When I suspend the machine, and resume, then fan speed seems to be at 100% for ever, until you reboot the machine.

When you hibernate, and start ubuntu again, then fan is under control (after a few seconds of 100% speed, it comes back to a under-control way: no noise, etc.).

Are you using the fancontrol package?

If so, can you provide the config file, and try running the following:

sudo /etc/init.d/fancontrol stop
sudo fancontrol

Then try to suspend, resume and see if there are any errors?

Yes, I had fancontrol installed. See below:

-----------------
xavi@camagroc:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/fancontrol stop
[sudo] password for xavi:
 * Stopping fan speed regulator fancontrol [ OK ]
xavi@camagroc:~$ sudo fancontrol
Loading configuration from /etc/fancontrol ...
Error: Can't read configuration file
-----------------

And again, after the resuming from suspending, fan speed didn't stop at all at any time (regardless of these commands on the console)

Which conf. file?

It looks like you have not configured fancontrol so it isn't actually working. Can you try removing the package and see if the behavior remains the same?

Ok, did remove (purge) the package, rebooted the machine. and then I suspended it.
Same effect: fan is still out of control.
Powering off the machine again...

Then it isn't a bug in lm-sensors, but in the hardware/firmware of the motherboard.
