My observations:
1. Put the volume down to 0 in Unity UI
2. Open alsamixer
3. Increase volume in alsamixer by 1
4. Volume slider in Unity UI reads approx 2/3, still no sound though
5. Increase volume in alsamixer by 1, sound appears
6. Continue increasing sound in alsamixer:
  - Sound level 4 doesn't exist, it skips from 3 to 5
  - Level 5 and 6 seem to be exatly the same, even though dB gain reads increasing as normal
  - Level 9 doesn't exist
  - Level 10 and 11 same
  - Level 13 missing
  - ... Enough :)
