segmentation fault when loading gnome-alsamixer with 11.10

When loading this program from the command line you get the following errors

(gnome-alsamixer:30916): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_hash_table_lookup: assertion `hash_table != NULL' failed

(gnome-alsamixer:30916): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_hash_table_insert_internal: assertion `hash_table != NULL' failed

Segmentation fault

The program alsamixer works fine from the command line, and controls the sound hardware as expected.

This is being run within the LXDE desktop environment
