I also have a similar or the same problem but my sound playback is very fast.. I sound like Alvin the chipmonk.. if I unplug the logictech web cam with built in microphone it may work for a while but goes back to playback too fast. I tried several Webcams and Sound Recorder the playback is always fast...

I have the same problem on skype on kubuntu 11.10.

If I try to start a test call, it appears like there's no capture flow created by skype... that is with the mic "off" as a capture device (all of this on KDE's mixer). If I turn it "on" as a capture device, then skype hangs up when I try to make the test call... I have to kill it. Then I tried separating the input volumes of both mic channels... then the call went through, the left channel volume was turned down little by little (automagically) but still no sound (and again, no capture flow).

I hope that helps a little.

Just updated skype to 2.2.0.35-1 (downloaded from skype's site), installed .deb file manually with dpkg, it works now without hacking around (I'm on 32-bit, just in case).

huh, interesting. I just found out that the current 32bit version in ubuntu partners repo is 2.2.0.35-0oneiric2, but the 64bit version is still from natty - why is that?
Aynway, I installed 2.2.0.35-1 from the skype homepage, will see if this fixes the problem.

Hi, a new skype version 4.1.0.20.0-0ubuntu0.12.04.2 is available, could you please try if you still have the bug with the new version?

If you still have this problem please set the status back to "new".

thanks

The following fixed it for me:

https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA11082/what-should-i-do-if-i-have-a-problem-with-my-audio-quality-in-skype-for-linux

On Ubuntu, under System Settings - Sounds under the Input tab make sure the input volume of the internal microphone is on
