Bug Description
On my 64bit oneiric machine, recently upgraded from natty, I try to use gdm instead of lightdm.
It's working, but I noticed that after login there is no "change user indicator" (the one with the user name) in the unity top-panel , just the clock and then the logout/
When unity is launched from lightdm the indicator shows up, just when launched from gdm it's gone.
On my machine this is 100% reproductible.

Am I really the only one affected by this bug ?
In order to illustrate the issue I attached two screenshots
one running unity from gdm,
the other from lightdm
