change screen resolution doesn't affect login/splash/grub

Bug Description
when you select your screen resolution, the login screen. splash screens and grub keep their original resolution and do not change to your preferred resolution.
so if you like working in 1024x768 and the system defaults your resolution to 2048x1536, you are left squinting in grub. Worst of all, if your monitor doesn't support the default resolution, then grub, the splash and the login aren't accessible to you
