Bug Description

i try to install 11.10 i386 desktop from usb flash. i have one installation from cd-rom and use usb-creator with same .iso file that i booted and installed this installation of 11.10. usb creator does something, asks password for erasing flash and for installing boot code, and says that all is done.

i try to boot from this flash drive. i choose to boot from usb drive and it start boots.

i have some time starring at red/white dots and it throws me to busybox with report, that it can't found live media, also, if i press ESC during starring at dots - i can see this repeating message: can't open /dev/sdb no medium found.

i try to investigate this problem, but got nothing. also, a want to say, that my bios has not any tunable parameters instead of password for booting =) i can't disable cdrom or change ahci/sata or anything =)

I have confirmed this due to added information, but could you try

sudo apt-get purge usb-creator

and then

sudo apt-get install usb-creator

In a terminal and then retry the creation.
If this still fails, install UNetBootIn and try it from there to test your ISO

same story with unetbootin.
Please move this bugreport to proper place.

also i found way to boot it:
when it tryes to detect cdrom or usb stick - remove stick and insert it into another port.
all works with this dance =)

Thanks for your effort with helping us to resolve this issue. Do you have an external CD drive, if so could you burn the ISO to a CD and try it in that, if not, don't panic :-).

Glad to see that you've found a workaround, hope you enjoy Ubuntu on your laptop

I have only blank dvds.
will it lead to obtaining same information as boot from cd ?

Also .. where can i get checksumms for official release of 11.10 ? i want to compare it =)

The checksums are in the downloads box in this page.

And boot from dvd is fine.

Thanks again for your help.
