I can't get my desktop

Bug #8821 reported by bluegeek

Bug Description

1. ESD can't start because my soundcard is not properly detected (/dev/dsp
doesn't exist).
2. gnome-session tries to start esound in the default configuration
3. when I log I only get the splash screen (I guess gnome-session is trying to
start esd but is not possible).

How about starting only ESD if /dev/dsp exists and the soundcard is properly
configured? I could only login after disabling esd at startup in gconf?

which version of gnome-control-center is installed ? The session should not be
