Update manager failure

Ubuntu 10.04. Kernel Linux 2.6.32-34. Gnome 2.30.2. Latest update would not install and Update manager suggested filing following report: 'E:Encountered a section with no Package: header, E:Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/gb.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_lucid_universe_binary-i386_Packages, E:The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.'

Try running this command to clear it up:

sudo rm var/lib/apt/lists/gb.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_lucid_universe_binary-i386_Packages

This issue happens when you have tried to update your package information when you are a network that didn't return the right files. This issue can be cleaned up by using the following commands in a terminal:

1.) sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/*Packages
 2.) sudo apt-get update
