cursor size keeps changing

Lubuntu 11.10 64-bit, release version, new install: I am using DMZ-White 24 as my cursor theme. I have found after a while the cursor size becomes larger (about 3/2 normal) on the desktop and in some applications than it is supposed to be (for example, on the desktop the cursor size is 36 while within a firefox window the cursor size stays at 24). I can reset the cursor size by starting and stopping lxappearance which reverts the cursor back to the correct size for the entire desktop area for a while but not permanently.
