after installing compizconfig settings manager unity crashed

after installing compizconfig settings manager and trying to resize the launcher icons unity crashed after reinstalling all things unity and then in console i typed unity --verbose --replace and it crashes

ubuntu 11.10

is it a multi monitor setup? Could you try the command 'unity --reset' and see if that resolves.

no it's not multi monitor. it's Lenovo x301 laptop

yes this froze the machine. I then had to Ctrl+Alt+F2 to reboot. I
have had to rebuild the machine, So it works now, but I wont be
installing compviz manager.

"unity --reset" worked for me

I had this same error from "compiz --replace"
