Bug Description

Just upgraded to Ubuntu 11.10 , now it doesn't shut down like previous versions ( you did the 3 finger salute &/o alt, ctrl, delete which would then bring a box with several options). This is a serious error and won't try using Ubuntu 11.10 again till I have some assurance that this problem has been corrected.

Ah, if Ctrl+Alt+Del doesn't work either, it's rather X.org issue.

Hi Dmitry,

FYI, the "three finger solute" has nothing to do with multitouch. It's a synonym for ctrl+alt+delete :).

Actually no, X does not handle c-a-delete. Not sure what does exactly, though. gnome?

(It used to catch ctrl+alt+backspace, maybe that's what you're thinking. But even that was removed from X several releases back.)

affects: xorg (Ubuntu) → ubuntu

In Gnome System Settings, on Keyboard -> Shortcuts -> System, this combination is shown and binded to "Log out", so it's probably a bug in gnome-session/gnome-settings-daemon/libgnomekbd, I'm not sure in which of these.

After all this trouble of not being able to shutdown from the GUI, I discovered in Ubuntu 11.10, Gnome, the shutdown features were intact! They weren't missing, right from the start! I verified that in KDE which I installed a while ago. In Gnome, the gear on the top right, next to the user name was missing! In the root desktop, the gear containing the shutdown function was next to "root"! That worked fine also! In order to shut down I had to put the mouse-pointer into the top right corner and the drop-down menu with "Shutdown" included amongst other choices were all displayed! I'd click on shutdown and another window popped up. Shutdown and restart were options. Worked nicely. Looks like there was no shutdown bug at all!
