Alt-F2 doesn't work on first invocation

Bug Description
I'm using Ubuntu 11.10 with all updates applied.
Steps to reproduce:
- Start Computer (log into unity-2d)
- Press Alt-F2
Actual:
Dash shows up without any content.
Expected:
Dash provides suggestions about apps.
Appended are two screenshots that illustrate the problem. After closing the dash and re-hitting Alt-F2 the expected suggestions are shown.
