Bug Description

In 10.04 LTS my scanner worked fine ... I used XSANE and SIMPLE-SCAN . I upgraded to 10.10 and things still worked. I upgraded to 11.04 and all scanner functions died. I keep getting "Error during read: Error during device I/O". After posting a bug against 11.04 and trying a variety of things I expected it to get fixed or at least acknowledged. I did get some help from some forum users but to no avail. With 11.10 I again expected things to get fixed ... if not by my report then someone else's ... I did notice others had posted the same question. No such luck ... 11.10 is just as broken.

I loaded 10.04.3 on my test machine and tried things again .... I needed some assurance the scanner still worked. As expected, all worked great. Now the question is how do I get scanner support for 11.10 ... Previous tries were badly unsuccessful. I am looking for the old bug number but don't have it at the moment. I have the same problem with XSANE and SIMPLE-SCAN.

Guidance is appreciated.

The scanner is an Epson GT-8200. I also have a Canon PIXMA MX870 which as yet has not worked with any Ubuntu release.

Tom Hunter, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

As per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases 11.10 reached EOL on May 9, 2013.

If you have an issue in a supported release (ex. 16.04) please file a new report, and feel free to subscribe me to it.
