Bug Description

Hi,

I am having an issue with an Officejet Pro K550:

1) Issue started under Ubuntu 11.04
2) After upgrading to 11.10 still experiencing same issue
3) Printing works fine on same laptop under Windows 7 boot partition.
4) Currently running latest updates under 11.10
5) And I have HP Device Manager installed and working.

When attempting to print or run a test print - job starts and always gets an inch or two down the page and then stops. Error code in HP Device Manager is always 5012 - Device Communication Error.

I have never logged a bug under Launchpad before but am happy to pursue this path. Although no whiz - I can follow technical instructions if laid out clearly.

Looking forward to a response.

Hi Robert

Thanks for the hp-check output. The ouput shows several dependencies missing and the hplip version installed is 3.11.7.

Can you please upgrade the hplip version to 3.11.10 . You can download the same at http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/gethplip.html. Install the hplip-3.11.10.run file by running command "sh hplip-3.11.10.run" in terminal.

Let us know if the issue is the same on the latest 3.11.10.

Thanks,
Goutam Kodu

Thanks Goutam,

1) I have downloaded hplip 3.11.110
2) Installed as per instructions (ran error free).
3) Rebooted
4) Re-ran hp-setup
5) When testing same error occurring - that is still no printing on K550.

I have attached latest hp-check - which now has no errors as all dependencies are met.

Looking forward to your response and suggestion for further testing.

Robert

Hi Robert,

Thank you for updating the hplip version to 3.11.10. The hp-check output is all fine.

To analyze the problem, can you provide some more log files . Below are the steps to provide the same,

Please follow the below steps to provide the same

1.Open the file /etc/cups/cupsd.conf in write permissions.
$sudo gedit /etc/cups/cupsd.conf
Change LogLevel warn to LogLevel debug and below that line add hpLogLevel 15.

2. Restart the cups
$sudu /etc/init.d/cups restart

3. Empty the cups error_log file and syslog file

sudo cat /dev/null > /var/log/syslog
sudo cat /dev/null > /var/log/cups/error_log

4. Print a test page.

5.Attach us the /var/log/syslog and /var/log/cups/error_log file.

6. In /tmp folder you will find files with name starting with hpcups like, hpcupsfilterc_1.bmp, hpcupsfilterk_1. bmp, hpcups_jobX.out.

please attach us the syslog , error_log , hpcupsfilterc_1.bmp,hpcupsfilterk_1.bmp, hpcups_jobX.out
This would make me clear what is wrong going inside.

Sorry for asking you more on this.

Thanks & Regards,
Goutam Kodu

The other files you mention in /tmp have grown to large.
One is now 65Mb.
Too large for upload.

Thanks Goutam,

That is good news.
It's going to be difficult for me to do any further testing at this point in time as I am currently away from the K550.
Hopefully you have enough info to debug successfully and provide a fix.

Regards,

Robert
