Equalizer option is disabled / grayed out

Bug Description

Unsure as to the reason, there doesn't seem to be an option for it on the preferences menu (or anywhere that doesn't require me to look at code or recompile the whole thing) , but the equalizer option is inaccessible and has been since the 2.2 update (it was working before).

Hopefully it's a real life bug and not a bad case of user n00bism (me) :)

The equalizer used by Banshee is included in gstreamer0.10-plugins-good. Do you
have that package installed?

If so, please run this command: "gst-inspect-0.10 | grep equalizer" and see if
that shows anything.

i just figure out, but i wonder why, when i enable last.fm Shuffle Modes extension, then equalizer option become grayed out/disable, anyone know

True, I disabled the last.fm shuffle, restarted banshee and the equalizer option is back . I'm now unsure as to whether or not the equalizer is working despite the option being grayed out (when last.fm shuffle extension is enabled) .

Still, it shouldn't be happening, but it's a work-around, thanks Heryts

Same problem, fresh new install (not upgrade) of 13.10, really wasn't happy with rhythmbox under 13.10 so I installed banshee. When first installed, two days ago, banshee's Equalizer was available. I changed one or two extensions (I did NOT enable anything connected with Last.fm.). I cannot remember exactly which extensions I checked or unchecked but both of the extensions relating to Last.fm are UNchecked.

gst-inspect-0.10 | grep equalizer shos 10 band, 3 band, and N band equalizer in place and yes, gstreamer0.10-plugins-good is installed.

Any other ideas on this? I hope I don't have to (a) reinstall Banshee or (b) play a guessing game with all possible combinations of extensions. Thanks in advance.

Try `gst-inspect-1.0 | grep equalizer` instead, and check for
gstreamer1.0-plugins-good.

It's not something to do with extensions, I believe.

Is anyone working on this? Do I have to reinstall banshee?

Every time I reinstall Banshee it takes a very long time to add 5,000+ tracks to the music catalog over again. (I don't mean copying them, just acquiring their metadata.)

No and no. I still don't have any idea about what the issue is. For starters,
could you provide your Banshee debug log (terminal output from starting Banshee
via "banshee --debug"), and your Banshee package version? (terminal output of
"apt-cache policy banshee")

Actually, reinstalling Banshee doesn't do anything. You'd have to purge your
Banshee config directory (~/.config/banshee-1) to need to re-import your music
library.

Thank you! Here is the output of "apt-cache policy banshee":

The output of "banshee --debug > banshee-debug-log.txt" is attached. As you can see, an equalizer preset that I made appears to be getting loaded, but I don't see any obvious reason why the equalizer is grayed out and inaccessible in banshee's menus.

Thank you for the comment on reinstalling banshee. I don't know why I came to the incorrect conclusion that that would result in having to reimport my audio files. I must have been confusing it with other times that I reinstalled my whole OS.

Well, this looks really odd. So the equalizer gets loaded, but still ends up
grayed out. I'll need to dig a bit into the code to see what's really going on
there. Could you try hitting Ctrl+E (to activate the equalizer) just to be sure
it's not a weird UI issue?

Hi Loong Jin,

Well, this may be good news --

Ctrl+E still activates the equalizer! I had not thought to try it before since the option was grayed out on the View menu.

I suppose that is probably easier to deal with (though also lower priority) than if the equalizer was becoming totally inaccessible. I'd love to see it fixed, but since it works for me by keyboard command I won't make any more noise on this bug.

Thank you for the help.

Best,
Eric

Heheh, this gets weirder, then. Could you try getting a screenshot of the issue?
If you can't activate the screenshot tool while the menu is open, just set it to
grab a screenshot after a delay of X seconds.

Yes, I had to set a few seconds' delay in order to capture it.

Hmm, weird. I'm guessing you can't click the menu item? Just to rule Unity out, could you start Banshee in a terminal as:

UBUNTU_MENUPROXY= banshee

And see if the option is grayed out there?

I confirm that starting:
UBUNTU_MENUPROXY= banshee
Launches Banshee with functional equalizer, and the equalizer option is not greyed out. Does that indicate that Unity is involved - or not ?

Sounds like it. Which verison of Ubuntu are you using? I can't seem to reproduce
this on Saucy.

I also confirm that starting:

launches banshee with working equalizer -- with, of course, the banshee menu right inside the top of the banshee window instead of proxied to the top of the screen. I am on Saucy, 13.04 with all updates.
