Bug Description

Hi,

---
System info:
Description: Ubuntu 11.10
Release: 11.10
libgdata13:
  Installed: 0.9.1-0ubuntu2
  Candidate: 0.9.1-0ubuntu2
---

According to http://live.gnome.org/libgdata 0.9.1 this is an unstable version, which will not receive any upstream bug fixes. Current stable version is 0.10.1. This stable version has been released alongside GNOME 3.2.

Will it be possible to upgrade libgdata to version 0.10.x in Ubuntu Oneiric? I'm developing for Evolution 3.3 / 3.4, and the current master branches were recently changed to require version >= 0.10 of libgdata.

If libgdata cannot be upgraded to >= 0.10 for Oneiric, I cannot use this platform for my 3.3 / 3.4 development of Evolution and Evolution-Data-Server.

Please let me know whether or not an upgrade is possible for libgdata in Oneiric.

Thanks in advance,
Christian

FWIW, putting 0.10(.1) into oneiric-backports would be perfectly fine for me.

Kind regards,
Christian

For Ubuntu Backports, we only backport packages from within the Ubuntu archive. Since libgdata in Precise is still at 0.9, there's nothing for us to backport.

I would expect (but don't know) that the desktop team would be looking to upload the new libgdata to the archive soon. For our tracking purposes, I'm going to mark this bug as Incomplete for now. Once the new version of libgdata is available, please test that it builds, installs, and runs on Oneiric, and then mark this bug as Confirmed.

(Alternatively, you can set it back to New and the backporters team would be happy to help you with the verification process)

Ok thanks, will keep an eye on it. As soon as libgdata is bumped to >= 0.10 in Precise, I'll act on it.

Thanks. Looks good so far for Oneiric. I've done the following:

* from http://packages.ubuntu.com/precise/libgdata13, get libgdata_0.10.1-1.dsc, libgdata_0.10.1.orig.tar.xz, libgdata_0.10.1-1.debian.tar.gz

* using pbuilder on Oneiric and the vanilla files above (no changes needed), build the debs for i386 and amd64

* installed the debs on i386 and amd64 ('dpkg -i' only, did not test with apt-get)

* on i386, built Evolution Data Server and Evolution (git master, requires libgdata >= 1.10) and ran it. Worked for me, but I did not yet test access to GData webservices as yet.

I'd be grateful if the backporters team could take it from here. Thank you.

Can you please test that the following reverse dependencies, as
released with oneiric, of libgdata13 still work with the backported
gdata?

 * totem-plugins
 * eog-plugins
 * evolution-data-server
 * evolution

That should be all that's necessary now. Once you've done that, change
the state of the bug to "Confirmed" and we can approve the backport.

With the backported libgdata13 (0.10.1-1) preinstalled, all of the packages mentioned above and their dependencies installed fine in an up-to-date Oneiric VirtualBox image. I do not have a native installation to test with.

Results
-----------

totem:
Searching for YouTube videos works (this uses libgdata, if I'm informed correctly), while retrieving the video thumbnails and video playback fail with the same symptoms Robert Dumitrescu (rc-dumitrescu) reported in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/totem/+bug/858516 for totem in VirtualBox.

eog-plugins:
Picasa photo upload works

evolution/e-d-s:
Access to Google calendar (read/write) works, though not tested in-depth

Looking good, setting bug to "confirmed", as proposed.

I've installed libgdata from the backports archive and checked with (a) prepackaged Evolution 3.2 as well as with (b) a freshly built Evolution 'git master', both worked well.
Thanks!
