This bug is due to the kernel being upgraded to a version that the Nvidia driver in Ubuntu 11.04 does not support.

You can avoid this bug either by reverting back to the kernel version 2.6.38 that Ubuntu 11.04 is meant to use, or by upgrading to Ubuntu 11.10.
