No System sounds although generally sound is available

Bug Description

Since I've updated to Oneiric, system sounds (e.g. login sound) are broken. Sound in music or video files is still working, it's just the system sounds. When I boot Ubuntu from the live CD, system sounds will work.

According to ubuntuusers.de there seem to be more people affected by this bug.

Ubuntu 11.10 amd64

If I create a new user account and login as this user, system sounds will work, so I suppose it's just an old configuration file that has to be deleted.
