Bug Description

I have recently upgraded to 11.10 version (64 bit). The most common problem i am facing is unable to find my running apps during alt+tab combination.

steps that i use to reproduce it:

1. open skype and login.
2. open some other apps like gchrome firefox etc..
3. be on chrome and use alt+tab to switch to skype .
Expected:
skype should be shown and shud be navigatable to that app.

actual:
Skype is not shown on the list. if i minimize chrome manually then i can see skype. If i use the left navigation bar where skype is shown, and hit the skype icon it opens a fresh instance of skype instead of showing the logged in instance. and say if i log in skype says already instance is running. The same is the problems with spreadsheet applications.

I reassign the issue to Unity, as it involves a problem with alt-tab.

I did the following:

gsettings set com.canonical.Unity.Panel systray-whitelist "['JavaEmbeddedFrame', 'Mumble', 'Wine', 'Skype', 'hp-systray', 'scp-dbus-service', 'Pidgin']"

and my skype and pidgin are shown on the systray. Now, i can find my skype.. Lets see how long it lasts... :)

Note: In pidgin the show in systray was marked as never i made it as always after the above step.

Pavan

It is not fixed. Is it?

In my previous comment i had put that i had to do some manual settings so that it stays on systray. I would presume thus an update
should be provided for a permanent fix on this. may be the settings which i have done should be taken into consideration in that update.

Pavan

If I understand your comment correctly, it is intended behavior that applications that only have indicators in the "systray" have to be whitelisted to appear there. Increasingly, applications are being ported to have app-indicators and therefore at some point the "manual setting" you refer will not be needed, but I don't think that we will get those applications white-listed by default to appear in the systray.
