Bug Description

In oneric xubuntu, parole is now the default dvd player, but for legal reasons or otherwise it does not work right out of the box. When we have to inconvenience the user like this, it is crucial that they get specific guidance as to how to get it to work, preferably without having to resort to a google search.

The solution, which is to install xubuntu-restricted-extras, should be included in the error message.

Ideally, the maintainer would apply a simple patch to this error message which may even allow a direct link to the software manager embedded right in the error message, or at least inform the user to install xubuntu-restricted-extras to obtain this functionality.

Unfortunately, the application Parole is not written exclusively for Xubuntu. It is written in such a way that it can be used in any distribution. As to maintainers, Xubuntu, following Ubuntu's lead, does not assign a specific maintainer to the application.

Hi Charlie- perhaps you can assign it to someone in multimedia. Even if it can't be modified or patched directly (which would surprise me since it's already got one ubuntu patch in its package), it may be possible to provide a first-time-run script that will inform the user in a similar way through a dialog.

The Xubuntu documentation included in the installation and online has a section instructing the user on how to add support for DVD Playback. Since DVD support utilizes restricted codecs that may not available for all users, this is probably the best we can do.
