Bug Description

I've got an Avertec Laptop with all the correct prereq's to run Ubuntu but when
I boot to the CD to do the install it begins just fine. I get to the 1st screen
to select F1 or Enter. I hit enter and the install begins with the text
scrolling up the screen. Then the screen fades to all white and the whole thing
just stops. CD, everything. I have to ctrl-alt-del to reboot. Can't get past it.

Please test something for us. At the prompt where you can press F1 or enter,
type "linux debian-installer/framebuffer=false" and see if that helps.

That did it. It's installing as I type this. Thank you!

Any chance you could try out a Dapper installation (you don't have to actually do the install, just boot from a Dapper install CD, such as the latest Flight release) and see if that works? It's possible that switching the console to 640x400 by default has sorted this out.

I apologize. I completely missed the question. Sure I can give it a try. Where do I get the install?

Mr Stough, did it work? also, Mr. Watson is there a way to put the framebuffer=false option to a more visible place? that might at least provide a workaround easier to find for others.

PS. I feel like I'm in star trek now ;)

Ok, sorry its taken so long to get back to you. I've downloaded the ubuntu-6.06.1-alternate-i386.iso file and burned it to disc. When I boot up with it and select the Install in OEM mode I get a blank white screen with faint colored vertical lines in it, so that doesn't work. If I hit f4 and select the 640x480x16 video setting and then select that OEM mode it works.

Could you test this in the latest Ubuntu release (6.10) and check whether this bug persists?
