Bug Description

I just installed Oneiric on an Intel Exopc Slate tablet pc. The touchscreen seems to work well, but after a random time (around 5-30 min) it stops working. X and Kernel are alive and it's possible to for example kill running applications from command line using a USB keyboard.

Hi Sir,

i am working for install the last release of ubuntu in the exopc, for use it in a scool, is a very good project for port ubuntu in the scool on a touchscreen device. I have the same problem, but i have understand this:

The touchscreen don't stop working, but it waits for a multi-touch gesture, and occurs only when pressed while you press with one finger on the screen, also press the second finger. At this time the device waits for multitouch gestures, and does not recognize that the fingers were lifted from the touch screen.
Try running ginn to understand the problem.
If you are running a multi-touch gesture by pressing it with both fingers, the tablet does not bug throughout the session.
For me it would be very important to solve, I would not explain the school, which must be executed before a gesture multitouch otherwise ubuntu hangs and becomes unusable.
You have made some improvement?
Excuse me if I speak bad English, I am Italian :-)
Is there anyone who can help us understand how to solve the problem?

Hi,

I cannot reproduce the bug by pressing with two fingers on the screen. Pressing 2 or more fingers on desktop don't do anything except normal selection. The touchscreen seems to stop working at random.

I am willing to help debug the problem if any of the developers need more information.

Ville Ranki, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-input-evdev REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

I just tested Exopc with up to date Ubuntu and this bug seems to be fixed.

The touch screen loses its rotation occasionally, but that's another issue..

Ville Ranki, would you need a backport to a release prior to Trusty, or may this be closed as Status Invalid?

Up to date Ubuntu == Saucy at the moment so it seems to be fixed in it. I'm happy with this.
