Bug Description

Steps to reproduce:

1) Run "sudo apt-get upgrade"
2) When the upgrade is finished, open the "Activities" overlay

At this point, you would expect to see window miniatures for each window present in the current desktop. Instead, what you see is ALL windows miniatures from ALL desktops, one "on top" of the other ("on top" in the z-ordering sense). See the attached screenshot.

Restarting gnome-shell resolves this. That is:

1) Press Alt-F2 on the keyboard to open the "Run" dialog
2) Enter "r" as the command to run, and press Enter

By the way, I am not sure if this bug happens every time I run upgrades, or whether it requires the upgrade to be related to the gnome-shell package.

That's very interesting. I have been encountering this quite frequently, but I never realized it was related to running updates. Behold, it is!

Do you think it's possible that this is triggered by the ldconfig processing that happens at the end of some (most) upgrades?

Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.

Changed in gnome-shell (Ubuntu):
status: New → Confirmed

I believe this is a duplicate of bug 853582 which was triaged as actually a duplicate of bug 848198 so I'm marking it as such.
