Could not install avidemux - it is not in the oneiric sources but on launchpad

Avidemux is missing in Ubuntu 11.10 because it does not build at present, due to bug 831096.

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION:

I cannot install avidemux in ubuntu 11.10 oneiric ocelot. I cannot find it via synaptic, apt or the software-center.
You can download it via launchpad but it has a unsolved dependency inside the package avidemux-plugins-common (see bug #678129).

I need avidemux - this is a regression from natty to oneiric.

This is a direct cause of bug #831096 - the binary packages was removed because it no longer builds in ubuntu.

A workaround as described in https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/avidemux/+question/174571 (post #6) is possible, but not ideal. (The workaround was applied on the machine I used to apport-collect, which is the reason for the slightly paradoxical apport information.)

I'm just going to mark this as a duplicate of bug 831096; that bug needs to be fixed in order for anything to change here.
