not handling dependencies properly

First thing I do when I install a new ubuntu (xubuntu in this case) is remove software center and install synaptic. for some reason it installed properly but i wonder if it is configured properly because I am finding that not all the dependencies are being installed when they should be yet I am not getting warnings. I have it on smart upgrade but I have tried both that and default and it seems to not be working properly.

Has anyone else had issues with synaptic in 11.10?

That version is too old and no more maintained
