I am experiencing the same thing: no internal mic on a Packard Bell DOTS.
I have found out that after installing paman package and selecting (devices) > Alsa input.......... then (properties) and (show volume meter) that I DO HAVE A MIC.... But howto get it to work in general or where the problem is I do not know... But maybe this info helps someone to figure it out... Of course I will keep on digging....

Merry X-mas :)
