Bug Description
Binary package hint: evolution
Evolution always starts in Offline Mode if network-manager is not managing interfaces. If I have a static wired ethernet port and network-manager does not manage it, then Evolution will start up in Offline Mode every time. This is, of course, unbelievably annoying.
The assumption that the network is down, just because network-manager doesn't manage it, is 100% bogus. Evolution should at least check to see if n-m has any interfaces at all before taking its advice on network connectivity. Furthermore, Evo won't even check mail on the local host in this condition. It assumes that all mail servers are on the far side of eth0, which is, again, not a correct assumption.
I would back out this misfeature until it can be reworked correctly.
