Bug Description

Using the thunderbird openerp module on ubuntu 11.04. Openerp is on separate server running CentOS 5.5. Initially I selected an email, then went Openerp > Push chose 'CRM Lead' in 'Type of Document' and then clicked Create. A confirmation window popped up. I can't remember what this said now, because it doesn't say this any more.

After doing this about 10 times or so, it no longer works. When I click 'Create' nothing happens at all, and no record is created in Openerp. It won't create Project Issues or HR Applicants either (basically all types of documents listed).

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the plugin - but when the plugin is reinstalled it remembers my server settings and still won't create anything. I have not tried reinstalling thunderbird completely and would rather not have to. This is a very irritating bug a step beyond the general goofiness of the interface.

Okay so I just went through my mailbox creating new contacts & leads using the thunderbird add-on: a totally buggy experience.

1. The windows don't open large enough to display the full form contained inside - ie. form fields/ information is cut off on the right side of the window. The windows can of course be dragged so all info is visible but it's rather irritating.

2. The problem I mentioned initially. In fact I was wrong that lead creation no longer works - it works erratically. It doesn't work for certain emails. It seems that if it decides not to work for a certain email then it will never work for that email (not a bug, a feature! It's consistent!) It particularly doesn't seem to like emails with attachments, but there were other emails without attachments which it didn't like either.

3. Contrary to the concept that it will check whether the contact exists before creating a new one, I was able to create the same contact as many times as I liked. I will have to go through my contacts list carefully to remove duplicates.

4. Select Email then OpenERP > Push > New Contact > Create Partner (window opens which is cut off half way along the "Name" field, and about half way along the 'save' button)
Now sometimes when I enter the name and click save, nothing happens! I then have to close the dialog. An inspection using the search facility on the "Create a new Contact" window reveals that the partner was not created. So then I do it again, Create Partner, enter the name and save. It then says "Partner already exists". I must close the box again. Now when I use the search facility by magic the name has suddenly appeared. I can then select it and finally save my new contact / partner.
Sometimes nothing happens x2 when I do this. Then in all the excitement more than one partner ends up being created with the same name. Yes, that's right - not only duplicate contacts but also duplicate partners.

5. There is no way of choosing a job description for the contacts created. It is silly to have a collection of names for a given company without being able to specify their role or responsibility. For this I have used the "Street" field, but that is hardly a real solution. It would also be nice to be able to include notes 'on leave until 27th July' etc.

6. If I MUST go through the emails one by one WHY can't I leave the "Push to OpenERP" window open when I do it? Instead I must close the "Push to OpenERP" window, select a different email, then select from the menu OpenERP > Push. Otherwise it thinks I am still looking at the same Email. Note this is compounded by the absence of a keyboard shortcut.

7. I would like my replies to automatically add to the history of the person i replied to. This seems obvious but doesn't seem to be happening.

8.... I grow weary. If I knew how far away from being production quality software this was before I embarked on it then I wouldn't have done so. (This is not indicated in the manual pages) However, having spent several days coaxing openerp into existence on my server I feel duty bound to thrash about with it until either it or me croaks unceremoniously. I only hope I can find time to put my coding hat on.
