Hi Guruprasad!

I need to know a little bit more about your system:

If you click the speaker icon (top right corner of screen), select "Sound Settings..." then "Output", what values of "Connector" are there?
Is the "Connector" changing automatically when you plug/unplug headphones, and if so, between what values?
If you change "connector" manually, will that bring sound back to the speakers?

Connector shows 'Analog Speaker' and 'Analog headphones' on unplugging and plugging the headphones, but when I checked in alsamixer, the volume of the speaker is set to 0 and manually raising to 100% causes the speaker audio to work normally.

But the Sound properties GUI shows 100% volume even when the volume of the speaker gets set to 0 on unplugging the headphone.

Oops, looks like Youtube had issues with my .ogv file. Here is the correct link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2BU2E7ldPA. Even though the speaker volume was 100% before connecting the headphones, it gets set to 0 after disconnecting the headphones when it gets unmuted.
