The URL was Youtube. I have the totem-xine plugins installed for firefox. The Firefox version is 2.0.0.1.
I also noticed that opening a new firefox window when running Beryl causes the session to crash as well. A if the window was transparent the menu is active but the display freezes. I can blind-quit the session, guessing where the startup window normally appears or kill xgl and Beryl using tty1.

Can you try switching off Beryl (most likely you should be able to switch to Metacity by right-clicking on the Beryl icon and selecting a different window manager). If you can repeat the issue with Metacity, then it seems like it's a Firefox issue, not a Beryl issue. If you can't repeat it with Metacity then it will most likely be a Beryl issue. Which version of Beryl are you running?
