Bug Description

Every time I reboot or shutdown I get a crash in firegl_sig_notifier; This looks very similar to bug 750437 but I don't get a full stack trace to capture (see attached screenshot). This started happening in the last 7 days (hard to be exact but it was working OK). I also noticed that I now only get a text based splash screen during boot - might be related?

Ubuntu Oneiric 11.10
Upgrade from Natty
Dell Studio 15 Laptop

I am using a Lenovo X120E which uses the AMD Fusion chipset and I occasionally get the same crash on shutdown.

OK - so its not everytime - it appears to be when I have run gpg-agent - which is as soon as I open a terminal - so pretty much all of the time.

The second stack trace shows this detail.

I'm affected by this bug too.
With fglfx : sometimes, it get this kernel panic too.
With the radeon driver, alt+f1 makes the left mouse key broken. So for now, i choose the kernel panic problem.

Same here... crash on most shutdowns.

I'm attaching a full stacktrace, grabbed via amtterm.
Note that I do have an out-of-memory kill due to Dropbox earlier, but I'd imagine that's a red herring. That out-of-memory didn't kill Xorg.

fglrx issue is at the END of the log file... after that point, I hard-reset.

I have this problem to. Sometimes when I shutdown my computer I get a crash, something with firegl_sig_notifier. I have to shut down the computer with long-press on power button. The crash log is not present in /var/kernel.log.1, only on the screen.

It is 100 % reproducible when I have had eclipse and adt (android dev tools) opened, but happens in randomly otherwise too.

I believe I have a workaround for this issue. (And I thereby a clue to where the cause for the crash is)

- I Downloaded the latest driver from amd website "amd-driver-installer-12-4-x86.x86_64.run"
- Opened Software center and uninstalled the firegl driver.
- Restart my laptop
- Run the amd-driver-installer

Now I cannot get the shut down crash anymore.
(I also tried to install the driver in Additional Drivers -> "post-release updates, but I could not install it. Don't know why, perhaps a restart would have helped)
