screensaver starts immediatly when on 'Never'

If the screensaver setting is on 'never' it starts immedialy.
Reproduced on two fully updated systems.

This is really irritating. As a workaround, I've removed the gnome-screensaver package, in the hope that'll prevent the screensaver ever kicking in.
My problem is, I want to play full-screen OpenGL games, possibly for longer than 1 hour at a time :) I can't trust that the game will inhibit the screen-saver, which is why I always disable it. This is apparently not possible in Oneiric, due to this bug.
