HP Paviliion DV9210US won't boot CD

Binary package hint: ubuntu-live

Tried to boot edgy live cd on my new HP Pavilion DV9210US, and to my horror it won't boot. It beeps halfway through and hard locks. I thought it was related to https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.15/+bug/50483 but the wireless switch doesn't affect the success or otherwise. Knoppix does work otoh.

PCLinuxOS booted, installed, and ran OK, but froze after a period of time. I narrowed the issue down to APIC. I don't know if this is related to the above issue, but just fyi.
