Bug Description

I just finished upgrading my Lenovo S10 netbook from Natty to Oneiric. Immediately after logging in, I noticed really bad artifacting on the desktop. I'm attaching a screen shot showing what I am seeing.

This was not an issue with Natty, it's only occurred since the upgrade.

Bumping this to High. It's really bad from a usability standpoint.

I should also add that this ONLY seems to affect Unity 3D on my S10. When I switch into Unity 2D, the artifacting is not an issue.

This affects me too. Thanks for the picture. At first I thought the artifacts were caused by compiz when I was swtching between viewports with Ctrl-Alt left/right/up/down. But now I see that dragging a window within the same viewport causes the artifacting. So was guessing this is a compiz issue. It's also my experience that the problem goes away with unity-2d. And the problem only arose after upgrading to oneiric from natty.

Nearly the same happen on my Lenovo S10 with Kubuntu when I did the upgrade to oneiric,
After login, the login screen fade to a black screen, only the mouse pointer are visibel
and can hear the login sound. Sometime a message box appears e.g. from akonadi or nepomuk.

Responsible for the problem on my S10-3 was the prior made kde settings in natty, not this bug.

Hey bladernr,

Hi, thanks for reporting this issue during the development period of
Ubuntu.

I notice there's not been further comments to the bug report since the
release came out, would you mind updating us on the status of it in the
release?

Are you still able to reproduce the issue? If not, do you think the bug
report can be closed, or do you think we should continue tracking it?

We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this confirms the bug is one we may be able to pass upstream for help.

Yikes... somehow I completely overlooked updating this.

Anyway, at some point (not sure when) and update did indeed resolve this issue. Unity seems happy, though the whole system seems a little sluggish (but that's to be expected on a first gen Atom with only 1.5GB RAM shared between video and CPU).

In any case, an update after release did indeed resolve the artifacting problems I was encountering. Good show!
