Bug Description
After:
* freshly installing Ubuntu 11.10 Beta 2
* removing (only games, nothing relevant I believe) and
* installing some packages (current NVIDIA proprietary drivers for my 8600M GT, otherwise nothing relevant)
* updating packages (around 400 (!))
* rebooting
the desktop seems to be displaced (see attached screenshot).
Stange enough the rest of the applications I'm running is fully functional, i.e. I am reporting this bug in a perfectly normal full-screen Firefox.
I recall that in Ubuntu 11.04 stable I would sometimes get a similar issue after connecting an external monitor, but that could be fixed by changing any of the settings in nvidia-config and reapplying. That doesn't seem to work for this problem, however.
What I've tried so far is to reinstall the NVIDIA drivers, but this didn't help.
I've been able to fix the problem temporarily after logging in by killing nautilus and restarting it (pkill nautilus; nautilus &). It then works until the next boot.
I'm new to the whole bug-filing thing, so please let me know if you need anything else.
