Bug Description

After I upgraded to Oneiric, my touchpad stopped working. I installed gpointing-device-settings and found that it had been disabled. I enabled it and it now works fine.

This doesn't sound like a kernel issue. Moving to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics. I'm not sure that's where the problem resides, but it should be a step in the right direction at least.

Nothing to do in xserver, moving to 'gnome-settings-daemon'.

thank you for your bug report, did you try to keyboard keybinding to turn it off and on? could you run "gsettings get org.gnome.settings-daemon.peripherals.touchpad touchpad-enabled"?

I don't think I have a keybinding for it.
I ran that command and it returned "true", and I found that gpointing-device-settings had no effect on that setting.
Possibly unrelated... my touchpad wasn't working lately, but disabling and then re-enabling in gpointing-device-settings made it start working again.

again, another bug that looks like a dupe from #868400
i also found that "disable touchpad while typing" seems to activate this bug on 11.10
