flash plugin for mozilla not playing videos, Google Crhome is playing videos

The flash videos from all sites like metacafe..etc are not playing. The browser loads a black screen in place of the video, no error as such is reported. I installed the Adobe player again, also the flash plugin for Mozilla, but non of that seems to work. When i try to update my plugins, mozilla mentions that my Flash plugin is outdated. Even after I update it from the Adobe website, it gives me the same message. Flash seems to work fine on Google Chrome.

I see the same problem with Firefox 13.0.1 and Shockwave Flash 11.2 r202

a difference is that Firefox reports the plugin as up to date

after the Firefox upgrade to 14.0.1 the black rectange disappears quite fast but nothing more

when I download a not shown video with DownloadHelper it plays with no problems in the meda player
