lightdm shuts down after logout

When I click logout on either gnome-shell or unity I do not get sent to the login screen but I get kicked out of x into a non interactive tty. The tty is still showing information from last boot...

also please check if pressing the alt+ctrl+F keys gets you back (might be bug 851612)

Alt+Ctrl+F keys do not get me back... Alt+Ctrl+F7 is giving me a non interactive tty, all the others are giving me an interactive tty

I have this problem too. I don't know why this was marked as duplicate of #874924. I had a clean install. Is there a simple way to get lightdm login back? or do I have to restart every time i want to log out?

This bug happens to me, but I'm convinced it's bug 862559 and not bug 851612 at play.
