Bug Description

This feature worked fine in 11.04. Now, if I leave my screen for a couple of minutes it dims. When I press a key, it only brightens a little bit. I can hardly see what I'm typing right now.
Before the first such dimming, using the brightness keys works fine to control brightness. AFter the first screensave, they don't work.

The laptop is plugged in.

When I press a key after it's gone into powersaving/screensaving mode, the screen should rebrighten.
Also, the controls for brightness should continue to work.

The dark screen problem can be "overcome" by either logging out, or suspending and resuming.

i have the same problem on my laptop... the laptop monitor doesnt fully bright up but my external monitor is fine.... can be also solved by changing resolution and hitting the "revert configuration" from the monitors panel.

then I'm marking it as confirmed.
Seems very high priority to me if it were widespread...

Thank you for your bug report, you see to have several issues there, does it go back to the level it has before dimming or not? Should ideally be sent to bugzilla.gnome.org by somebody having the issue

I see the same issue -- System 76 Pangolin, using stock 11.10 + fglrx drivers. Affects both screens -- laptop, and desktop monitor.

As far as I can tell, it probably is, so I'm marking it as such.
Btw, although the workaround of a user-level setting to never dim the screen works in part, the screen will also dim on lightdm before anyone has logged in, if one waits long enough. Then the screen also cannot be rebrightened, and logging in does not reawaken/rebrighten it.

Is it really a duplicate? This bug is about dim/undim, the other bug is about blanking screen so it goes all black. Am I wrong?

Anyway, my screen dims and do not undim as it should. Tried logout/login, suspend resume. No luck. I'm on kernel 3.0.0-16-generic in Ubuntu 11.10. The other bug should be fixed in kernel 3.0.0.15.

Duplicate status is wrong, not really the same issue.
