GRUB unable to load default kernel on 8GB system.

Bug Description

I have a dual opteron with 8GBs of main memory. Grub claims there is not enough
memory:

Error 28: Selected item can not fit into memory.

Grub on the alioth debian unstable release does boot on this system.

This bug is fixed in the current version of grub in ubuntu. You may need to
re-run grub-install in order to get the fix; I'm not sure.
